Pompeii is an extremely significant town in Italy that was destroyed momentously when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD. Although throughout the 1st century Ad Pompeii bared little to no importance to the world, the city is very noteworthy now and is considered a UNESCO world heritage site with its well preserved sites.   

Pompeii was a dominant port, trading, industry and business, however, many written artefacts show of a major population of the Pompeiian citizens were slaves or freed people. These facts prove that Pompeii was not as perfect as it sounded. Furthermore, Pompeiians were considered typical Romans so their historical preserved site can provide many information of the Roman society. Many Romans of Pompeii did have common diseases still found in the 21st century but scientific studies show their dental hygiene was fairly poor. Additionally, although Pompeii had been destroyed for the past 15 years before the volcano eruption by earthquakes, the citizens believed that this had no connections to the volcanic eruption.

Present

Form Pompeii’s discovery in 1748, archaeologists have been exploring Pompeii for more than 250 years. Although research has commenced on Pompeii for such a lengthy duration, historians still say they are still far from barely reaching the understanding of why and how Mount Vesuvius erupted. Modern Pompei was then officially found in 1891.

From continued research, scientists and archaeologists have agreed on the prevention of further excavation as they have realized how much power and knowledge of Pompeii can be found in the streets and houses of Pompeii. Nonetheless, researches from nations around the world are recording and studying the remnants of Pompeii and with all this research occurring, it brings new discoveries from the remains of Pompeii.

Additionally with the paintings from ancient Pompeii of beautiful and glorious gardens, historians have discovered with examination that there were actually gardens found in Pompeii. These green gardens were found in pools, fountains, and various other locations. The plants in gardens consisted of flowers, herbs and vegetables. This information was found through studying the wood, pollen seeds and other plant remains throughout Pompeii. Furthermore, scientists say at least one fifth of Pompeii was covered in nature. This discovery was brought on from microscope analysis and recently, archaeologists have found the remains of a mule at a recent excavation site. In addition to this find, fish salting and horse stabling have previously found in other excavations. However, this process of work and thus, a University of Cincinnati uses iPads to record the enormous quantity of data collected in the excavations.

Remnants of bodies from the volcanic eruption have given valuable information to historians, especially skeletons.  Scientific analysis from medical scanning of the bodies proves many who were not weak or frail were unable to escape the terrors of Mount Vesuvius. A recent finding of a home showed that a family of 13 healthy people died. The ages of the bodies advocate of grandparents, parents, their children, including one who was a pregnant teenager
